So, I find myself reading a number of interesting books all at one time. I am afraid that this habit has, over the years, lead to my inability to actually finish any one book within a reasonable amount of time. I seem to be lacking the ability to read through a book’s more boring parts, to forge ahead and receive my reward – the exciting parts and the interesting bits!
The following books are top-notch novels, and are must-reads for fans of their respective genres and non-fans alike! Here is my list of current books that I am reading:
The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams
A sort of modern fairy-tale that transports an ex-rock’n'roller who has lost nearly everything into the world of Faerie. Plagued by an evil spirit, what will become of Theo Vilmos? The book is a little slow in the beginning, but becomes an excellent read shortly thereafter!
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
One of Larson’s best books yet, this piece centers around the lives of the brutal serial killer H.H. Holmes and the famous architects Burnham & Root, who designed the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and the activities associated with the Fair. This book is completely historical, but reads like a novel, making history fun to read and interesting to learn about.
Religious Literacy by Stephen Prothero
Prothero’s hit book about religious illeteracy and intolerance among the American people is a must-read, regardless of your religion (or lack thereof). The author goes into detail about the potential deadliness of being unaware of the various religions around the world. With startling information about the incompetance of the average American when it comes to even basic religious knowledge, Prothero exploits one of our nation’s weakest points: Religious Literacy.
